To set rules for your emails
Gmail filters is the best technique as it allows you to manage your inbox
without going through lengthy manual steps. Here are some ways discussed that
will help you to make more use of your Gmail filters.
1.
Forward all incoming emails and archive them
If you have number of Gmail accounts and you really want to use one of them,
the best way to arrange your entire emails is done by forwarding all the emails
from all the accounts to the primary account. Along with that, you can also
mark the emails as read and archive. So they won’t show up in the inbox. To do
this create a new filter with
@
in the “From” field. In the next step you can select “Forward it” as well as
“Mark as read”.
2.
Auto-reply to Email Using Canned Responses
If you have permanent email sender or have the same pattern (like questions
on a particular topic, guest post request, etc) then you can compose response
and create a filter to auto-reply with the response for such kind of emails.
3.
Sort attachment of various size
With the standard filter you can choose emails and attachments. But to
improvise the filter efficiency you should fix the attachment size. Suppose to
add a label “big file attachment” to emails with attachment of more than 10MB.
Follow these below mentioned steps to sort the size of your attachments.
1. In the search bar of Gmail, type:
size:10m |
2. Now take the down arrow to the end of the search input field by doing
this you will pop up a filter window. At last hit the link “Create filter with
this search” and you can easily allot a label for this filter.
You can also use this way to customize this filter and can sort attachment
according to their file types, like this:
has:attachment .jpg | .jpeg | .png | .gif | .tiff | .tif |
or
has:attachment .pdf | .doc | .docx | .xls | .xlsx |
and can place your email either in “Picture” or “Documents” folder.
4.
Quickly organize old emails into label
Your created filter will only work for
future incoming emails but if you have thousands of emails in your inbox and
you have just started out using filters, then there is an option to apply the
filter to your inbox that contain all emails.
After selecting the action for the filter just
click the “Create the filter” button, check the box beside “Also apply filter
to matching conversation” as this will
filter all of your same emails in your inbox.
